Ebenezer Anson was born in Dutchess County, New York, son of Lebbeus Anson & Susa Allard. He married first Mary Rinos in 1831. Either she died or they divorced.

He married second Permelia Richardson (before 1839), with whom he had at least 4 children, only two of whom survived to adulthood. Ebenezer & Permelia divorced sometime after 1850, where he was enumerated in the Federal Census in Lockport, Niagara County, NY as a shoemaker. He left his children in New York, and moved to Illinois where he started a new life as a farmer, marrying Angeline Jontz Landis on October 12, 1855 in Princeton, Bureau County, IL. Together they had 5 known children, with only 2 surviving to adulthood.
