Geraldine Buehler Amon, 74, of Netawaka, KS passed away November 19, 2013 at The Pines in Holton, KS. Gerry was born in the early morning of September 14, 1939 at Dr. Forest H. Kendall's hospital to Harvey Buehler and Isabell Harris Buehler. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, KS.
Gerry grew up in the vicinity of Birmingham and attended Sunrise Grade School, a rural one room school, for eight years. She graduated from Holton High School in 1957. Her family moved to Netawaka in the summer of 1956 where they ran a café and gas station on Hwy 75. It was there she met Eugene Amon. They were married September 8, 1957 in the Netawaka Methodist Church. Four children were born to this union; Janet, Julie, Gerald and Jay.
Gerry was baptized in the First United Methodist Church in Holton and was a member there until her marriage. At that time she became a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka. She served as treasurer, served on the nominating committee and the Altar committee.
After her children all attended school, Gerry started working outside the home. She worked at the Whiting elevator for over 20 years. Then for Kids Stuff in Topeka, the Jackson Heights District Office and the Kansas Department of Agriculture before retiring.
Gerry loved to read, as well as doing cross stitch, puzzles of all kinds and tending to her plants and flower beds. Music of any kind was another love of hers. She had been a long time member of the Jackson County Women's Bowling Assn. and had served as secretary several years. Gerry served as Netawaka Precinct Committeewoman over 30 years. She was a recent member of the Home Circle Club in Netawaka.
Several years after retirement, she became a Foster Grandparent, working at Jackson County Elementary Schools.
Gerry was preceded in death by Eugene on June 17, 1992. She was also preceded by her parents and a brother, Harold.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet Amon of Topeka and Julie Watson and her husband Doc of Linn Valley, KS; her sons, Gerald Amon and his wife Stacy of Netawaka, KS and Jay Amon of Pleasant Hill, MO; 3 grandchildren, Hayley Irwin of Ottawa, KS, Taylor Amon of Pleasant Hill, MO and Adam Amon of Netawaka, KS and a brother, Darold Jay Buehler and his wife Carol of Holton. There are many Amon family members surviving, including 2 brother-in-laws, Wayne Amon and Larry Amon and his wife Shirley; nieces; nephews and some special cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka. Burial will be in the Netawaka Cemetery. Family will greet friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Beck-Bookman Library, Jackson Heights Track Fund or HCH Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
