You suffered a tremendous loss but you never lost your family and true friends. Even now you inspire and comfort many through your poems and other writings I a clear understanding of who you truly were.In the family we still speak of you often with pride and reverence. Across time and space I send you love and warm hugs.

You helped this nation during a critical hour with your pen and editorship. It was a valuable job in the Civil War. And you tried to assist in the creation of a realistic reconstruction policy. To be betrayed by a mentor like that is awful. I'm sorry it ruined your life and the marriage to Libby. Rest in peace Theodore.

Your editorials for the New York Independent during the Civil War were outstanding. What your co-worker and "friend," the Reverand Henry Ward Beecher, did to you was an absolute disgrace. Rest in peace, Theodore, you are not forgotten.
