Eagle River resident Ann Theresa Smith, 73, died April 15 at Alaska Regional Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Eagle River with Father Leo Desso celebrating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. There will be a reception at noon at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Eagle River.
Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Providence, R.I., to John and Concetta Carlo. She trained to become a registered nurse and worked in the Veteran's Hospital in Providence, Kent County Memorial Hospital in Warwick, R.I., then at St. Joseph Hospital in Providence. She served in the Army Nursing Corps for 10 years and was honorably discharged from active service as a captain after working in the 85th Evacuation Hospital. She retired from nursing in 1985.
Mrs. Smith married Theodore Smith on July 5, 1952.
She enjoyed baby-sitting and crafts like knitting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, and son, Wayne. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Barbara and Stephen and Catherine of Eagle River; two sisters, Antonette Carlo of Eagle River and Olga Ceseretti of Providence; and four grandchildren, Amy, Melissa, David and Rebekah, all of Eagle River.
The family has designated memorial donations to Chugiak Senior Citizens Inc., 22424 N. Birchwood Loop, Chugiak 99567.
Arrangements were handled by Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel.
