In Loving Memory of
Michael John Beard, II
1989 - 2013

Michael John Beard, II, aka Mikey, age 24, passed away on Monday, 27 May 2013, in his Herriman, Utah home.

Mikey was born in Thousand Oaks, Ventura, California, on Thursday, 16 March 1989, to Michael John and Jill Susanne (Tolson) Beard, Sr. Mikey's first years were spent in Simi Valley, Southern California. At the age of three, his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he spent the majority of his remaining years.

Mikey was a very adventurous person. He had a love for all sports, but primarily football. His favorite NFL team of all time was the Green Bay Packers. He played football from the time he was eight into his high school years, in the positions of Guard and Tackle. All of his coaches and teammates loved him dearly.

Mikey also enjoyed spending time helping coach his younger brothers. Mikey loved just about anything that went fast. However, his deep passion was for boat racing. His dream was to be a driver, one day, for a Beard family K-racing runabout.

He spent much of his time and late nights in the shop with his dad, working on boats and preparing the team for upcoming events. Mikey was always happiest when surrounded by his family at the races and as the teams Co-Crew chief.

Mikey had the world's largest sweet tooth. He loved any type of candy or dessert placed in front of him and he was a top-notch baker. He could often be found in the kitchen mixing up his latest, new concoction.

Mikey loved all types of music. He was introduced to the rock legends at a very young age and shared his dad's love for Van Halen. He would take on any task as long as he could be plugged into headphones while doing it. He relied on music in times of joy, sadness, excitement, or frustration.

In his most recent years, Mikey struggled with substance addiction. During this time, he was admitted to the Utah Drug Court program and Odyssey House treatment program. He had been doing a phenomenal job in these treatment programs and was on track for a July graduation. During his time in treatment his light shined bright and with that he was able to help many of his peers along their road to recovery, as well. He had a great conviction of his sobriety and was "one year clean".

While in recovery, Mikey discovered that what made him happiest was helping others fight this disease. He had decided that he would like to become an addiction counselor. He knew that he could use the lessons from his trials to help others.

During his last week on this earth, Mikey was struggling with some rejections in his own life and his heart failed, due to an accidental overdose.

Mikey is survived by his parents, Mike and Jill Beard, Sr.; his siblings, Crystal, Mel, Morgan, and Colby; his best friend / brother, Derick; and his grandparents, Mel and Cindy Beard. Also surviving him are his aunts, Leslie, Cyndy, Stephanie, Amie, Sandy, and Tori; uncles, Dean, John, Brett, Nick, and Christopher; and cousins, David, Eric, Kelly, Nick, Ben, Andrew, Matt, Rebecca, J.D., McKenzie, Quinn, Brady, Blake, Nicholas, Jake, Hailee, Brigham, Danny, Wyatt, Kaytlyn, and Dillan; along with many, many, many friends.

He was greeted on the other side by his Papa John; Mema Jan; uncles, Keith and David; and cousin, Lucas.

Family and friends called from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M., on Saturday, 8 June 2013 with Mikey's funeral at 11 A.M., in the LDS Church, 13381 South Pioneer Street (6000 West), Herriman. Interment followed immediately afterward in the Herriman City Cemetery.
