JAMES RUSSELL COOMBS Peacefully on April 11, 2008 at the Veterans' Division of Sunnybrook Hospital, in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Ann and devoted father of Paul (Rosy), Barry (Aleda), Beth (Tom), and Michael (Sable). Sorely missed by cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Lauren and Brennan; Gregory and Benjamin, Neneh and Alisha; also great- grandchildren, Mya and Riley. Predeceased by his brother Paul B. Coombs. Fondly remembered by many colleagues at General Foods where he was employed for 44 years. Starting as an office boy, his dedication to continuing education enabled him to achieve senior sales positions. As a lifetime supporter of the Liberal Party, he acted in many capacities including Founding President of Oriole Provincial Riding and Treasurer of the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario). He admired and met several Prime Ministers as well as his hero Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Awarded the Confederation Medal (1867-1992) and the Queen's Golden Anniversary Medal (1952-2002) for Community Service, Jim was President and Secretary of the Henry Farm Community Interest Association; Secretary of the Advisory Board of St. Matthew the Apostle (Oriole) Anglican Church and founding President of Eva's Place, a residence for homeless youth. He served on the Ontario Film Review Board for several years. Friends may call on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew the Apostle Anglican Church (80 George Henry Blvd.). Interment St. John's Norway Cemetery. If desired, donations to a charity of your choice, Sunnybrook Foundation or St. Matthew the Apostle Capital Campaign, 80 George Henry Blvd., North York, would be appreciated.
