He was born in Marion, the son of E.E. and Parthenia Dillingham Allen.
He married Louise Wanless in 1939.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Carl, Everett, Glenn and J.V.
Mr. Allen was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He was very active in the Boy Scouts, Little League, Pony League and basketball.
He was employed for 20 years as an agent for Prudential Insurance, retiring in 1979.
Surviving are his wife, Louise; one son, Robert E. Jr. of Springfield; three grandsons; three sisters, Bessie Knobloch, Marie Stone and Marjorie Gatlin, all of Springfield; one brother, R.T. Allen of Virden; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bisch Memorial Home, with Dr. Roger Rominger officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
