Curley Massey, Jr., affectionately known to some as "C.L.", was born on March 19, 1933 in Commerce, TX to Maxcine Stiggers and Curley Massey, Sr. He departed this world on October 26, 2012.

Curley graduated from St. Paul High School in Neylandville, TX in 1951 and attended Texas College in Tyler, TX. He served honorably in the U.S Army. He married Mary Alice Branch in 1951. To this union was born two sons, Michael and Aaron Massey. In 1989, he married Mary Grace Williams who preceded him in death.

Curley transitioned from Commerce, TX to Portland, OR where he attended Portland State University and Lewis & Clark College. He received various scholarships/grants and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He was an established, dedicated educator in the Portland Public School System for many years until his retirement. Curley was very passionate about making a difference in the lives of his students.

Curley received literary certificates from the Northwest African American Writers Workshop and passed his literary skills on to his students. He was an accomplished poet who wrote poetry that encouraged and uplifted youth. His poems have inspired many students in Oregon, and as far away as Texas.

Curley was known for his flare in dressing; always trendy and fashionable. He had a smile that would light up the room and was well liked. He was a faithful member of Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church and served on the Board of Trustees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curley Massey, Sr., Maxcine Moore, step-father, J.T. Moore; brothers Bobby Massey, Joe Lee Massey and Donald Ray Massey.
Curley leaves to cherish his memories: Two sons, Rev. Michael Massey (Sandra) of Paris, TX and Aaron Massey of Dallas, TX; brothers and sisters: Hazel Massey, Min. Helen Massey, Jimmy Massey and Mildred Moore all of Portland, OR. Five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a special niece and caregiver, Lana Clisby of Portland, OR, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever love and miss him.
