PASSED AWAY ON TUESDAY

Esteemed Citizen Succumbs
after a Long Illness

James W. Burns, as esteemed resident of this place, passed away at the family home on Tuesday afternoon about 4 o'clock, following an illness which had lasted more than a year. He was man who had a wide circle of friends and who had been a good and respected citizen. During his long illness he received all the care and comfort which loving hands could give, his faithful wife and daughters ministering to him constantly.

When taken down with a hard cold which developed into pneumonia something over a year ago he was acting the the capacity of street commissioner in this village, the duties of which he had performed for some two or three years previous. Other complications set in following the pneumonia and from these he never recovered.

James William Burns, born March 16, 1848 in the town of Cascade, Kent County, Michigan died December 11, 1917. Married to Barbara M. Lorentz April 25, 1883. Two children, both living, Mrs. William Fitzpatrick and Miss. Anna M. Burns. Came to Gaylord in the fall of 1889, has been his home since. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burns and Michael Burns of Grand Rapids came Thursday morning. Funeral Friday morning.

The family has the sincere sympathy of many friends.

The funeral services were held from St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday morning of this week and were largely attended. The burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
