I am sorry for what happened to you both and your family, on account of that pompous little fiend. By all accounts, you did the best that you could - no one could expect any more. I pray that you are at rest. I hope to meet you one day. Let the name of Rathbone be remembered with praise and be counted with the heroes of this once-great Republic!

A decent man and soldier, and a tale to learn from in our modern era, whenever veterans suffer, that sometimes it's time for the rest of us to give love and health care to those who have already given their all.

It breaks my heart that you also fell victim to John Wilkes Booth. Your misery lasted for years and affected your family also. I wish I could find out if I'm somehow related to you. RIP, Major Rathbone.

You were very brave in defending the Lincolns and your fiance' Clara Harris on the night of April 14th 1865. There was once a time in America when people didn't think of themselves first. I commend you and thank you for your service and devotion to our blessed nation. God rest you sir!

What a tragic life beginning to end! Even beyond it's ending there was MORE tragedy. I only hope in heaven he received a better reward than he EVER found in life.

Thank you for your wartime services, and for the unexpectedly important role you did play in slowing down and ruining the escape plans of John Wilkes Booth. You were one of the many secondary and tertiary victims of the conspriracy, as it played on your mind and led to the tragedy of 1881 regarding your wife Clara. At least you and she left children, and one was a Congressman from Illinois. Rest in peace Major.
