JANESVILLE - Anton A. "Tony" Huschka, age 98, formerly of 1417 Oakland Ave., died Wed., July 7, 1994, at Rock Haven, where he had resided for the past four years. He was born April 6, 1896, in Raymond, KS, the son of the late John and Mary (Zecha) Huschka, who settled in Janesville in 1908. On Aug. 22, 1923, he married Anna Schultz at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Janesville. Tony's first job, at age 14, was at the Rock River Woolen Mills. Other jobs included the Caloric Fireless Cookstove Company, the building of the Racine Street bridge, and the Janesville Machine Company. A World War I veteran, Mr. Huschka served from April 30, 1918, to Sept. 10, 1919, with Company L, 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army at Camp Eagle Pass, TX. Starting in 1919 at Sampson Tractor, Tony retired in 1962 with 43 years of accumulative service with Sampson Tractor, Fisher Body, and General Motors. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #95 and a life member of Richard Ellis American Legion Post #205. Mr. Huschka was an avid fisherman and loved to do carpenter work and gardening.
He is survived by two sons, Donald (Hazel) Huschka of Brodhead and William (Carol) Huschka of Janesville; 2 daughters, Norma (Ray) Phillips and Ramona (John) Whittier, both of Janesville; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, in 1976; a son, Kenneth, in 1932; a daughter, Shirley Helmeid, in 1990; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held July 11, at Schneider Funeral Home, Janesville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with Military Rites.
