My great grandfather served under you and was shot and was not able to return to service the same day you were killed, William Sumner Howard was his name. You were all very brave.

Gen. Rodes my great-great grandfather, Andrew W. Shealy, fought in your Division with Co.C-12th Georgia Infantry Regiment. You were one of the best Generals in the Army of Northern Virginia. In memory, I have a picture of you hanging on the wall of my home. Rest in peace.
