She worked many years and held many jobs. She worked at Medomak Canning, Lipman Poultry and Health Tex. She was a member of North Nobleboro Baptist Church.
Saima enjoyed country music, sewing, knitting, cooking and baking her Finnish braided Nisu bread. She also loved gardening. She planted flowers every spring. Cosmos, pansies, hollyhocks and phlox all came up for her.
Saima lived to be 86 years of age and was currently living at Glenridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Facility and was very well cared for.
She was predeceased by her parents; as well as her husband, Ahti O. Hirvela, who passed away in April 1979.
Saima leaves behind her daughter, Linda Marie; and husband William A. Leigh Dr.; a granddaughter, Sally Marie, and her husband, David Teele; a grandson, William A. Leigh Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Marie and Forrest David Teele.
A private interment ceremony will be at Highland Cemetery in Jefferson at a later date. (Kennebec Journal 5/4/2013)
