FISHERMAN'S PRAYER
God grant that I may fish,
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray,
When in the Lord's safe landing net,
I'm peacefully asleep,
That in His mercy I be judged,
As big enough to keep.

Gene was my hero. He left home when he was 16 so I didn't spend as much time around him as I did the other two boys.
He had a few good laughs at my expense, though(like the others). One time my Mom was going to visit a sick neighbor and told Gene to watch me...no problem. I went across the road to the tire swing and was really flying high when I noticed him standing in the doorway with a rifle."Don't shoot me,Gene!" I said. "I won't" was the reply as he raised the gun and took aim...and as I swung high, he shot the rope in two 'way above my head!
We really got close after Mom and the boys passed away and Dad was in a Nursing Home. Gene would come down every week and we'd go visit Dad and go out to lunch. Then after Dad passed, I felt the loss of those visits. I always had big dinners(the "invite everybody and his brother" kind) for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday and he always enjoyed coming to them until his health got so bad he couldn't make the trip. Now,I'm not up to doing such big dinners myself. I even had a close family 4th of July BREAKFAST! I loved it! I miss my family members that are gone, but oh! Do I have some good memories!!!!
