LANTANA -- Scott Leland, choir director at Santaluces High School in Lantana, died on Wednesday of heart failure after complications with pneumonia. Leland was 38.
Mr. Leland, who was a strict disciplinarian, had been in and out of the hospital for the past six months.
He directed three choirs at Santaluces -- Reflections, Mirage and Singers.
``He was the kind of guy that was hard on the kids, but when we would go on stage, his eyes would sparkle and you could see tears in his eyes when we would sing,`` said senior Alex Weiner, who sings tenor.
