Donald Knapp had three kids, Married twice. Was in the Army and served in Japan. Married first to Charletta Knapp who he had two sons by. Donald Knapp Jr. born on Feb. 12th, 1945, died on Feb. 3rd, 1966, just before his 21st Birthday, of spinal cancer. David Preston Knapp was born Dec. 15th, 1948, his mother died two days after his birth due to childbirth complications, her mother raised him and his brother in the early years, their grandmother Bessie Himberger of Omaha. Donald then married Mildred in 1951, his cousin's ex-wife, and they had one child together, a daughter, Kathy (Knapp) Schulte, born: Jan. 4th, 1952. Kathy and Loran Schulte had four kids together, Kimberly, Russell, Jeremy, and Daniel. David married Bonnie Clayman on Sept. 28th, 1971, they had three kids together, Traci Lynn, David Preston Jr., and Steven Howard. Dave spent 12 years in the Army. 9 years with the Federal Government. Spent time in Germany and Alaska. Son and father and Stepmother were semi-estranged, not by son's choice. Alot of unfortunate circumstances and misunderstandings. Father and stepmother never reconized Dave's marriage or acknowledged his kids. They were closer and more devoted to his daughter and her family. In the early 60's Donald lost a leg in a tragic car accident, almost lost his life, had an artificial leg. His cause of death was complications due to a heart attack. An infection that went to the brain. Was in the hospital only a couple of days following his heart attack when he died, at the age of 67. Dave's Stepmother, Donalds second wife, Mildred, was mainly responsible for the rift between his dad and him, jealous of another woman's child, he wasn't hers. She was real mean and use to beat him. When Dave had a heart attack in the Army at age 32, she kept the letter from him, he never knew till years later, when asked. Bonnie tried to mend fences, bridge gaps, and bury old grudges over the years, be the peacemaker and reunite family, but Mildred would not allow it, brainwashing her daughter and other grandkids, turning them against Dave's family. Needless to say, Kathy's kids grew up confused, hateful, and angry. Kathy started to reach out to her brother near the end, e-mailing, which she hadn't done in years. I pray Dad Don finds the peace, understanding, truth, and joy he deserves. Things may have turned out so different, if his first wife had lived.
