William settled at "Newington" and with his son Lt. Nicholas Taliaferro, of the American Revolution, lived at "Totterdown Hill." His second marriage was to his first cousin, Elizabeth Taliaferro. "William died at "Newington," his seat on Mountain Run, Orange County, VA, after a painful illness without a groan, the 21st of April, 1798, aged 72 in August, 1798." His Orange County Militia commission was dated 5/5/1756. He was a sponsor of Catlett Madison, brother of President Madison."
