Frances Kathleen Bigham, 89, Blue Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at Community Memorial Healthcare, Marysville.
A service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Winifred Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Cummins officiating. Burial was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, rural Blue Rapids.
Soloist Richard Argo, accompanied by Phyllis Carpenter, sang "How Great Thou Art." The congregation sang "Jesus Loves Me." Pallbearers were her grandsons and included Phillip Eugene Bigham, Mark Bigham, Darin Bigham, David Wessel, Kevin Wessel, Matt Umscheid and Bret Parker.
Memorials contributions will go to the restoration of the Harbaugh School and may be sent to the Kathleen Bigham Memorial in care of Terry Chapel and Funeral Home, PO Box 61, Waterville, KS 66548.
Frances Bigham was born Aug. 27, 1916, at the family farm northeast of Blue Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Hattie Newson. She was home-schooled by her mother and entered Patterson rural school in the third grade. She attended Blue Rapids High School and graduated with the class of 1933 at the age of 16.
She taught for one year at Fawn Creek and for two years at Harbaugh.
She married Erwin Bigham on June 22, 1939, at her parents' home near Bentonville, Ark. They returned to Kansas and made their home on a farm east of Blue Rapids. She moved to the Blue Valley Care home in 2003.
She was a member of the Marshall County Historical Society and a church member. She loved animals and was an avid reader.
Survivors include two daughters, Marjorie Musil, Centennial, Colo., and Marcia Wessel, Blue Rapids; a son, Phillip Bigham, Blue Rapids; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin; an infant son; her parents, Frank and Hattie Bigham; an infant sister; and an infant granddaughter.
