Mrs. Holland Burnett Succumbs to Operation
Was Taken Seriously Ill Thursday Last Week and Died at Passavant Hospital Friday Morning.

Sorrow was again cast over our community Thursday last week when it became known that Mrs. Holland Burnett, who had been in poor health for some time, was suddenly taken seriously ill and had been taken to Passavant hospital at Jacksonville, with little hope of recovery. She underwent an operation shortly after midnight and died at 9 o'clock Friday morning. Her going removes from us a young woman well beloved by the entire community, and taken as she was in the spring time of life, her loss seems more difficult to realise and understand. Apparently she was a strong and robust woman, only her family and intimate friends knowing she was not in the good health that seemed to be hers.
Florence Pugh Stice, only daughter of George W. and Mary E. Stice, was born near Waverly February 10, 1893, and departed this life on October 24, 1919, at the age of 26 years, 6 months and 14 days. She spent her girlhood days on the farm where she was born.
She entered high school in Waverly and graduated with the class of 1911, with whom she was always a favorite because of her sweet and winning ways.
On June 18, 1906, she professed faith in Christ as her personal Saviour, during the meeting held by Hart and Magann. On July 6th of the same year she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, where she remained a faithful member.
On September 3, 1913, she was united in marriage to Holland Burnett, and became a devoted wife and loving home keeper. She was of a genial, sunny nature, greatly loved by all who knew her.She was a great lover of music, and was herself an accomplished musician.
In her life was exemplified many Christian graces, as she stood for those things that are of greatest value which make life worth while and give promise of a better life beyond.
She leaves to mourn her departure a devoted father and mother, a faithful husband, a loving brother, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the First M.E. church Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., conducted by the astor, Rev. F. E. Smith, in the presence of a large company of sympathizing friends.
Interment was in East cemetery.
