Dr. Koop touched my life as a young student nurse at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. I have no idea how he knew that I had developed a rapport with a little 12 year old girl who was going to have a cardiac cath done but he stopped me in the hall and said normally they did not let the students in to observe a cath but he wanted to know if I would like to be there... and of course I said yes.It is now 47 years later and after recently retiring from 45 years of critical care nursing, his kindness is still fondly remembered. I only wish I had shared my thanks with him while he was alive. He was such a good man and did so much for so many through his work as Surgeon General and he stood up for what was right and just.He will be missed in so many ways. My sincere condolences to his family.
