Christine Edmonds Dye, 88, of Buda, went to be with the Lord February 22, 2013 in Austin, Texas. Christine was born on June 5, 1924 in Hillsville, Virginia to William and Bessie Edmonds and raised on a farm with her six brothers and sisters. After graduating from high school at 16 she attended several years of Business College.
Christine's love of life and adventure relocated her from her home in Virginia to California. While there she worked, and volunteered for the U.S.O. She was always a true, free and loving spirit. Christine loved life and loved others even more. She was highly intelligent and enjoyed presenting herself always fashionably and was quite the lady.
Our mom always deemed her greatest accomplishment to be her children and family. She was fiercely protective of them and always provided an environment of love, trust and moral responsibility. She was both mother and father and raised her five children alone, never expecting help or depending on others to take care of her and her family. She was proud, independent and the very best Christian to ever touch our lives and the lives of countless others.
There are people who walk among us on this earth who are just special. That is the perfect definition of our mother. Our mom was a mom to everyone and became known to everyone as "Nanny". Her gifts of love and nurturing were always available to all she met. So often accolades are documented by earthly measures and earthly greatness. Our mother's accolades were of a much higher calling. She truly walked with God's love her whole life. She will be missed greatly on this earth, and is most at home with her Father. Those who have known her are enriched by her being a part of their lives.
After Christine raised her own children she was blessed and delighted to play a powerful role in the loving and nurturing of her grandchildren. Mothering is something that she loved most and it continued up until the day her physical body would cooperate no more, but her mental ability never strayed beyond keeping them ever close to her heart.
Christine is survived by her five children; Lynda Wade and her husband Robert and Isabella of Driftwood, Carol Paulk of Pasadena, Jack Dye and his wife Cathy of Pasadena, Bill Dye and his wife Karen of Spicewood, and Sally Hughes and her husband John of Buda. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Jeff Paulk, Matt Paulk, Nicole Ohlendorf and her husband Ryan, Amber McIntyre and her husband Josh, Courtney Bukowski and her husband Beau, Samantha Ireland and her husband Dan, and Danielle Dye. Nanny was blessed to have 4 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly; Miller Ohlendorf, Bleu Bukowski, Cody McIntyre, and Lake Ohlendorf. Christine was everyone's "Nanny."
Visitation will be held at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Manchaca with Pastor Scott Sandahl officiating. Burial will follow at Driftwood United Methodist Church.
