Mr. Lamar Norman Welch, 84 of Jena, Louisiana was received into Heaven on Thursday, February 14, 2013.

He was born to the union of Leslie Maurice Welch and Sena Louise (Russell) Welch on June 17, 1928 in Jena, Louisiana. Mr. Welch was an account for over 30 years, the former Mayor of Jena for 8 years and served on the Town Council for 20 years. He was a 2nd Lt. in the US Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Welch is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Maurice Welch, Roy Welch and Harry Welch.

Those left to love and miss him are his wife of 61 ½ years Mary Jane "Sissie" (Harrison) Welch; one son, David Norman Welch & wife Ann of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Lisa Eileen (Welch) McCann & husband Ned of Jena; three grandchildren, Jerod McCann and wife, Sara of Baton Rouge, Mica (McCann) King and husband Brant of Jena, and Ben McCann of Jena; one great granddaughter, Ava McCann of Baton Rouge.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home of Jena and Sunday at 11:30 AM until time of service at Jena First Baptist Church. Services will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday at Jena First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. Mr. Welch will be laid to rest in the Nolley Memorial Cemetery, Jena, LA. under the direction of Kinner & Stevens.

Serving as pallbearers, Randy Welch, Jerod McCann, Ben McCann, Brant King, Harry Welch, Jr., Keith Welch, and Kevin Welch. Honorary pallbearers are First Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class and the Deacons.

The family request donations be made to the Jena First Baptist Church "Mission Action Fund"
