Dale was born September 2, 1937, in Davenport, to Lloyd and Margaret (Speth) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Betty Schneckloth on September 15, 1962, in Davenport at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Dale had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960. He was employed at the former Kartridge Pak Co., now Packaging Technologies, for 36 years, formally retiring in 1999, but continuing to work there part-time until 2009.
Dale was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, loved to watch local dirt track auto racing, followed NASCAR and was an avid outdoor walker. He was an accomplished woodworker, having creatied many keepsakes for his family. His grandson was very special to him, and he loved to spend time with him building race tracks and Lego buildings.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Betty Nelson, Davenport; son, Robert D. Nelson, Davenport; daughter, Diana (Matt) Burnett, Davenport; grandson, Collin Burnett, Davenport; a brother Dennis (Sandy) Nelson; four sisters, Jean (Don) Behrens, Lois (Reed) Winters, Gladys (Darnell) Hattam and Kathy Wade; mother-in-law, Beatrice Sherman Schneckloth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lloyd Nelson Jr., and two sisters, Elaine Hearn and Beverly Kiesele.
