Statement of Condition, Federal Land Bank of Columbia, 1917

The General Counsel of the Federal Land Bank of Columbia, Robert Holland Welch, wrote Farm Loan Board member Charles E. Lobdell on December 10, 1917 to transmit a Statement of "Loans Closed" and "Abstracts on Hand." The statement was a particularly momentous one as the Bank has just surpassed the million dollar mark in total loans closed. $1,000,885.00 had been paid out on 493 individual loans, the bulk of which were made in North and South Carolina, at 270 and 152 respectively. The remaining States of Florida and Georgia received 47 and 24 loans respectively in the first calendar year of the Banks operation.
