Arthur S. Adams, a retired Marblehead firefighter, died Wednesday, July 3, at his home.

Mr. Adams, 87, a lifelong resident of Marblehead, worked 32 years as a firefighter before retiring in 1970.

After leaving the force, he was employed by the Michaud Bus Lines of Salem, the Roger Conant Cooperative Bank of Salem, the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce Information Booth and for the Marblehead school system as a crossing guard.

He had worked from 1932 to 1937 as a bus driver for the Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway, Salem.

Mr. Adams was a 1923 graduate of Marblehead High School and played on the 1922 football team that went undefeated and unscored upon. He was a member of the Marblehead Dustie Baseball team, the Gerry 5 VFA and Headers, both in Marblehead.

He was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and was a member of the First Boys Choir there.

The son of the late Arthur and Carrie (Haines) Adams, he was the husband of Marie E. (Brophy) Adams. He was the father of Marie A. Breen of Marblehead, the father-in-law of Kenneth H. Breen of Marblehead, and the brother of Robert Adams of Reading. He leaves one grandchild, three nephews, one niece and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, in St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Arrangements were by Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm St.
