Mr. Jack Warren Ailstock, USMC Retired, age 72, of Norfolk, died November 17, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Patricia B. Ailstock.
Mr. Ailstock was born November 19, 1935 in Covington, the son of Charles Peyton Ailstock and Goldie Wilhelm Ailstock. Enlisting in 1954, he served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp for twenty-three years including serving during the Vietnam War. During his military career, Mr. Ailstock received specialized training in photographic and operational intelligence, took courses in Automatic Data Processing; and rose to the rank of Captain. A decorated officer, he received the National Defense Service Medal with one star, the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with three stars, the Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Following his retirement from the Marine Corp, Mr. Ailstock worked for Auto Trader Magazine in Chesapeake over twenty years, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Marine Corp League, and the Moose. An avid golfer, he will be fondly remembered for his love of the game and was happiest when playing golf three times a week. Mr. Ailstock was known for his sense of humor, his winning personality, the ability to keep his family laughing and always ready to tell a good joke. Most of all, he loved his wife, children and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of forty-eight years, Patricia B. Ailstock of Norfolk; one son, Dean Ailstock and wife, Sharon of Norfolk; one daughter, Pamela Ailstock Owens and husband, Michael of Germany; one brother, Claude W. Ailstock of Covington; one sister, Aileen Hamrick of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Leah Reynolds, Tiffany Ailstock Brannon and husband, Nathaniel, Ashlee Ailstock, Jake Boyd and Alex Owens; one great granddaughter, Jordyn Taylor Wyand; one great grandson, Peyton Warren Brannon. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, special friends and TSIGA golfers.
In addition to his parents, Charles Peyton Ailstock and Goldie Wilhelm Ailstock, Mr. Ailstock was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Ailstock Morris.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 28, 2009, from the graveside at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating.
Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
