We can never repay them… We must never forget them! Thank you for your service to this great country so that we may enjoy the freedoms that we so take for granted! It is an honor to leave this small token of my appreciation. May you rest in peace, and know that someone thought of you today…

Corporal John Byerly is listed on the Pennsylvania Memorial at Gettysburg as having been present for duty with Company H, 93rd Pennsylvania Infantry. Though none of the regiment's 270 soldiers were killed or mortally wounded in that famous turning point of the Civil War, 10 members were wounded. The 93rd helped repulse an attack just north of Little Round Top and took a number of Confederate soldiers as prisoners.
