Barbara, her sister Sarah and her brother Patrick were on their way to school in St. Peter when Barbara's car was hit by a gravel truck near the road to the family farm between Mankato and Kasota. Barbara and Sarah were killed instantly, Patrick was seriously injured, he died five days later. Barbara was a Junior at St. Peter High School and was a popular member of the Cheerleading squad.
After her death the St. Peter High School Barb Klaseus Scholarship was named in her honor.
