Algoma Record, Friday, January 19, 1900: Returned Broken-Hearted
Mrs. Minnie Lily, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. B. Fowels, arrived here from Marinette Monday. She has had heavy sorrow since her last visit, her husband and little girl both having been called away by death from her side. The former, William Lily
was a young ship carpenter and had been ill for some time in Marinette and Sturgeon Bay. Finding no relief from the medical treatment in these places, his friends took him to the Green Bay hospital, where an operation for appendicitis was successfully performed, but a second fatal trouble, pulmonary abcess showed
itself in a few days and carried its victim to his death. The funeral was held at Marinette, Wis., where the decased's (sic) parents live.
Within a few days of the father's death his little girl Ruby Mae Lily,
was attacked by typhoid fever and died. The little body was laid away side by side with her father, where she has gone''to be with Jesus," as she, when sick, desired.
William Lily was born at Fort Howard, Wis., in 1864 and was well
known in Green and Sturgeon Bays as well as in Marinette and this city. The little girl was but five years of age, having been born in Menasha in 1894.
The sincerest sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved widow and mother, who having accompanied her husband to Green Bay and remained in loving ministry to the sad end, has now returned with her only remaining baby boy to make her future home in this city with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. B.Fowles.
