CHENERY, Alan Jeffries Jr., 85, passed away on December 11, 2012 in Richmond. Longtime residence of Bon Air, he was the son of Dr. Alan Jeffries Chenery Sr. and Lyle Gary Chenery. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sara Lu Chenery; daughter, Lu Gay Chenery Lanier and husband, Robert; son, Alan Jeffries Chenery III and wife, Audie; granddaughter, Cortne Lanier; and grandson, Carl Lanier and wife, Natalie. Alan attended Randolph-Macon Academy, received his B.A. from Randolph-Macon College (class of 1950), went on to serve his country in the Army and earned his Master's in Education from The University of Virginia. His dedicated and much loved career with Chesterfield County included teaching English and math at Manchester High School, assistant principal at Midlothian High School and principal at J. B. Watkins Elementary School. Alan served on the Board of Associates and the Board of Trustees for Randolph-Macon College, and was also a Trustee Emeritus. He was a loyal and enthusiastic alumnus and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. A graveside service will be held in Woodland Cemetery, Ashland, Virginia, on Saturday, December 15, at 1 p.m. The family welcomes you for a reception at Randolph-Macon College in the Andrews Building following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Randolph-Macon College Honors Program or Lakewood Manor Benevolent Fund. Nelson Funeral Home, Ashland, Virginia, will be handling the arrangements.
