Rebecca Shaffer was a daughter of David Shaffer (Shaeffer) and Maria "Polly" Borst. Rebecca was baptized on 28 September 1806 at Zion Lutheran Church, Cobleskill, Schoharie County, NY. She was married to Theodore Quick, born about 1800, Clinton, Dutchess County, NY. He died in 1847 in Michigan. They had six children. Rebecca returned to New York state.

In Memoriam.
Mrs. Rebecca Quick died in Chittenango March 17th, 1882; aged 74 years. Her maiden name was Shaffer. She was born in Cobleskill N.Y. where she resided with her parents till her marriage with Mr. Theodore Quick. They removed to Michigan where she was left a widow, with four children, in 1847.
A few years subsequently she came with her family to Chittenango, where she has since lived, respect by her neighbors, and beloved by her many friends. She was converted in 1838 during a powerful revival of religion, under the labors of that eminently devoted servant of God, Rev. R. Cook, of precious memory; where many became "partakers of like precious faith." She immediately united with the M. E. church, of which she remained a consistent and worthy member till her death.
She was a fond mother, a faithful wife, a cherished friend, and a devoted Christian.
Firm in principle, faithful in duty, and consistent in life, always hopeful, uniform in her spirit, never fretting under the vicissitudes of life, but with calm Christian submission, cheerfully accepting every event as the gift of a Father's loving hand. Such a spirit fell like sunbeams on her home and friends, causing all within her influence to realize that she breathed the air of Beulah. During her last sickness, she had the consciousness that her end was near. But the valley had no darkness to her. "How does it look over there ?" asked "her affectionate daughter; "It is all bright and beautiful," was the exultant answer; and the weary spirit plumed its wings for immortal rest in the Many Mansioned Home.
