David Curtis Hanson
SHREVEPORT, LA – Our beloved husband and father went to be with the Lord November 26, 2012. David Hanson was born August 18, 1924 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He grew up on a farm during the Depression, graduated from Fair Park High School, and served in World War II from 1943 until 1946.
David retired as a supervisor at the Shreveport Post Office after 39 years. He was a member of the Postal Credit Union where he served as president for two years. He was a member of the Elks Club, tutored as a Literacy Volunteer for 23 years, and a long-time member of Brookwood Baptist church where he served on the prayer room staff for several years.
To his family, he was a man of conviction – honorable, loyal and courageous. To his friends, he was dependable and consistent, a leader by example, a gentleman. His integrity was intact.
David is preceded in death by his father, Sidney M. Hanson, mother, Mrs. Wray (Hanson) Stevens, and brother, Charles E. Hanson. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lou Hanson; sister, Eloise Hanson Whittlesey; daughters – Bonnie Walker and husband, David Walker; Susan Butler and husband, C.J. Butler and their children, Ashlea Palladino and Bart Butler; Lori Taylor and her children, Jason Taylor and wife, Stephenie; and Taryn Taylor; and his son, David W. Hanson, daughters, Brittany and Natalie, wife Kaye Deane and their children, Alex Hanson and Courtney Botts; and a host of great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David W. Hanson, David Walker, C.J. Butler, Bart Butler, Jason Taylor and Michael Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Conrad Neel, Charles Deen, Charles Hughes, members of the Andrew Sunday School Class, and their teacher, Asa Curtis. His favorite scripture was 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and self-discipline."
The memorial service will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, LA, at 2 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012.
David's greatest joy was his family, which he honored using humor and admiration in over 70 poems written during the past 15 years. Beyond that (…and tee time!) he enthusiastically wrote letters to the editor at the Shreveport Times, and eagerly awaited their response and subsequent publication. We will miss his daily strength and encouragement, but we are not without Hope!
