A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at New York, New York, August 19, 1861, as a private with Co. G, 51st New York Infantry. Admitted to the U.S. hospital in York, Pennsylvania, date and reason as yet unknown, he there discharged the service by surgeon's certificate to date September 28, 1863. He obviously did not make it home.
