Obituary Seminary
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Union South Baptist Church for John J. Gandy, 85, of Seminary who passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Dr. Barry Armstrong, Dr. Don Stewart, and Reverend Jack Andrews will officiate at the services with interment to follow at the Union South Baptist Church Cemetery. Music will be provided by Mary Ann Sanford and Jeremy Johnson. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Brad Abercrombie, John Folkes, Philip Anderson, Guy S. Williams, Ike Sanford, and Buster Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be Manifred Gingrich, Bill Brunson, Rayford Mooney, Sonny McKinley, Herbert Underwood, and Brantley Perkins.
Mr. Gandy, a Sturgis, Mississippi native, was a retired welder for the Pipeliner's Union #798. He was a member of the Union South Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for the past sixty four years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Gracie Ingram Gandy; and his two brothers, Delbert Gandy and Omer Ingram.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Margueritte Lott Gandy of Seminary; three daughters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Gandy King, and her husband, Charles of Seminary, Juanice Gandy Glaze, and her husband, Lamar of Hattiesburg, and Vaneesa Gandy Abercrombie, and her husband, Archie of Seminary; six grandchildren, Kelly Sawyer, Brad Abercrombie, Russell Abercrombie, Lauren Glaze, Matthew Glaze, and Johnathan Glaze; one great-grandchild, Reagan Abercrombie; and a host of other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens, P.O. Box 18800, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 39404, or to the Baptist Children's Village, 805 North Flag Chapel Road, Jackson, Mississippi, 39209. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Union South Baptist Church.
