Ethan A. "Iggy" Bond,89, passed away in his residence in Kempton, PA, on Nov. 22, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore M. (Fister) Bond, in 2009. He was born in Kempton, a son of the late Wert A. and Lila A. (Lutz) Bond.

Ethan was a rural mail carrier for the Kempton Post Office for 25 years, retiring in 1988. Prior to that, he worked with his father in the family business in Kempton as a blacksmith and welder. He was a veteran of WWII, having honorably served in the U.S. Navy. He was a 1941 graduate of Slatington High School. Ethan was a member of New Bethel Church, Kempton, where he served as the former cemetery treasurer. He was a charter member, past president and treasurer of the Kempton Lions Club, where he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones and Bing Miller awards for outstanding service. He was a past director of the Kempton Community Center; a member and past financial secretary of the Kempton Fire Co.; a member of the Kempton Rod and Gun Club; the Lynnport, Kutztown and Lyons Fire Companies as well as the Goodwill Fire Co. of Hyde Park, PA.

Ethan is survived by a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and a great-grandson. His funeral will be held in the New Bethel Church, 135 New Bethel Church Road, Kempton, PA 19529. Interment with military honors will take place in the adjoining cemetery.
