David Moniac is considered the first Native American graduate of West Point (Class of 1822). He was a Creek Indian who married the sister of Osceola, the Seminole chief. Ironically, Moniac was killed in action at the Battle of Wahoo Swamp (Florida) by his brother-in-law's warriors during the Second Seminole War.
