Mary Aileen Burnett, 68 year old Happy Camp resident, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 1998 at Fairchild Medical Center (in Yreka).
Mary was born in Happy Camp on Nov. 10, 1929 to Ervin and Julia Goodwin, whose family were early settlers in Happy Camp. She attended Happy Camp elementary and high schools. She married the love of her life, Robert Lewis Burnett, on May 28, 1949 in McKinleyville, California. They shared forty-eight years together, living in McKinleyville, Moses Lake, Wash. and the last few years in Happy Camp. Mary attended many of the churches in Happy Camp. She was an avid reader, volunteer librarian and a member of the Karuk Tribe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in November 1997.
A funeral service will be held at the grange hall in Happy Camp on Thursday, June 4, 1998 at 10a.m.. Interment will follow at the Happy Camp Cemetery. Donations and contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Siskiyou County Unit, PO Box 291, Yreka. Girdner Funeral Chapel is handling the funeral arrangements.
Note from Donna: Mary "got sick" and passed away in a matter of days. Prior to that she was healthy. Family and friends believe she died of a broken heart following the death of Bob.
