Widow Of Former Mayor Dies At City Hospital

Mrs. Annie Duncan Hines, 78, widow of A. Scott Hines, twice elected mayor of Bowling Green, died at 1:05 p.m. today at city hospital.

She was moved to the hospital this morning after suffering a heart attack at her residence, 902 Elm street.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial, however, will be in Fairview cemetery.

Mrs. Hines was born in Bowling Green April 5, 1873, daughter of the late Edward L. and Cornelia Duncan Hines. During her girlhood, following the death of her mother, she made her home in Frankfort with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duncan, but had resided in Bowling Green since her marriage to Mr. Hines on Dec. 23, 1896, in Nashville.

Mrs. Hines attended old Ward Seminary in Nashville. She was a member of Christ Episcopal church and formerly was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. C.H. Welch, Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Henry D. Hines, Nashville, and Duncan L. Hines, Bowling Green; two brothers, J. Potter Hines and Duncan Hines, both of this city, and seven grandchildren.

The late A. Scott Hines first served as mayor of Bowling Green from December, 1925, to 1929. He began his second term in December, 1941, and was mayor at the time of his death on May 19, 1942.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky., Dec. 5. (AP) - Mrs. Annie Duncan Hines, 78, member of a widely known Bowling Green family, died Tuesday of a heart attack.

She was a sister of Duncan Hines, nationally known expert on foods. Her husband, the late A. Scott Hines, was mayor of Bowling Green twice. He died in 1942 while serving his second term.

Mrs. Hines, native of Bowling Green, had lived here since 1896. She was educated at the old Ward seminary in Nashville, Tenn. For many years she had been active in the Christ Episcopal church and in the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. C.H. Welch, Tucson, Ariz.; and two sons, Henry D. Hines, Nashville, and Duncan L. Hines, Bowling Green. Funeral services will be held here but details were incomplete.
