The current and most common name of the cemetery is "Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery". It has gone by several names in it's 200+ year history including: "Church of Christ on Jamey's Creek", "Woodruff Meeting House", "Shackelford's Meeting House", "Bethel", "Old Bethel", "Bethel Baptist", "Bethel Baptist Church" and "Old Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery". Having been owned and maintained by the church throughout it's history, the cemetery name followed the name of the church until 1911 when the church changed it's name to First Baptist Church of Woodruff. The cemetery is divided into sections and Church Street runs through it dividing it into two large areas.

There are two cemeteries directly side by side; Bethel and Old Bethel. There isn't a sign, gate, or fence to delineate between the two cemeteries. For the purposes of Findagrave these two cemeteries have been merged.
