|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Greenfield Presbyterian Church was built in approximately 1850 by the Reverend Joel Spencer Graves from Vermont. It was the first brick structure built in Colquitt County.
Joel's sister Ruth Graves and his daughter Roxanna Graves taught at the attached Presbyterian School.
Three of Joel's sons married 3 of the daughters of Dr. Baker Ewing Watkins, who was the first physician in Colquitt County, Georgia.
During the Civil War, the Greenfield Church became a Confederate hospital and Dr. Watkins was one of the resident physicians. After the War Dr. Watkins was elected as Colquitt County's first school commissioner.
The Old Greenfield Cemetery is the final resting place for Joel Spencer Graves and his wife Eunice Whedon and Dr. Baker Ewing Watkins and his second wife Elizabeth Owens along with many unmarked graves of the Confederate soldiers who died at the hospital.
