Cemetery notes and/or description: Prosperity Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church was founded around 1788. A Sesqui-centennial Celebration was celebrated on August 10, 1939. At that time the following officers of the church are listed on the program: Pastor Rev. Paul A Stroup Superintendent of Sabbath School Mr. M. D. Wallace, Jr. President of Y.P.C.U. Miss Ruth Benfield President of W.M.U. Mrs. W. W. Brown Leader of Junior C.U. Mrs. H. O. Wiggins Clerk of Session Mr. W. W. Brown Treasurer of Congregation Mr. M. G. Beard Services for the Celebration were at 11 am and 2 pm with a picnic Lunch at 12:30 pm. Guest speakers were Rev. J. R. Love and Dr. Julian S. Miller.
Prosperity ARP Church burned to the ground on Christmas morning 1970. The church history and records were destroyed also. Shorthly thereafter, the congregation built a new brick church on the property. At some later point in time the church became a part of the Presbyterian Church of America and is still serving a strong ministry in the community. |
