Cemetery notes and/or description: Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is located near Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow, Westchester County, New York. It is established around the Old Dutch Church, which still stands today.
The Old Dutch Church Burial Ground was once its own entity, but has been absorbed by the cemetery, and is now a section of it. The original cemetery has historical significance and is located in the first section when one enters through the big gate, over by the Headless Horseman Bridge. Most of the burials there are from the very early in the 1700s up to the mid 1800s.
The main part of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery begins where the "Old Burial Grounds" end and includes all the remaining sections and more recent burials.
Burials in the former Old Dutch Church Burial Ground should be listed in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, with their location in the old cemetery be noted in the plot listing. |
