Cemetery notes and/or description:
At the entrance to the church pathway stands a fine memorial to the crew of the USAAF bomber, a Flying Fortress, nicknamed Dry Gulcher which crashed at the village on August 4th 1944. The memorial was paid for from subscriptions in USA and was unveiled and dedicated on 26th June 2008. All the crew except for Ssgt Harold Norris who was the tail gunner made a successful parachute landing; the plane exploded with the blast damaging Shalford Hall. The aircraft, based at Ridgewell aerodrome, was from the 532nd Bomb Squadron part of the 381st Bomb Group. (Text by Geoffrey Gillon)
