Donner Lake Camp
Truckee
Nevada County
California  USA

Cemetery notes and/or description:
The site where the majority of the Donner/Reed Party was trapped near Truckee (Donner) Lake. There were 3 cabins at this location, Murphy, Breen & Graves/Reed cabins. In the summer of 1847, General Stephen Watts Kearney led a company of men east, crossed Donner Pass and inspected the cabins and the campsite. He discovered many human remains in and about the cabins. He ordered a pit dug in one of the cabins and the remains were placed in it. The cabin was then torched. Such was the burial place and the "funeral" for the emigrants who perished at the Donner Lake Camp.
