|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
THE WORK HOUSE CEMETERY is now defunct. Breslin Park now sits on the area that THE CITY WORKHOUSE and the Work House Cemetery was on. Many family members moved the bodies to other cemeteries, while many bodies remain there because no one claimed them when the Work House closed and then was demolished in 1968. The City Work House housed criminals convicted of minor crimes. It sat at Payne Street and Lexington Road (near Deaton Street). The Work House and it's adjacent cemetery was built in 1850, it sat on 9.74 acres of land, across from The National Distillery. Breslin Park was put on that spot in 1974.
