Cemetery notes and/or description: Mount Pleasant Cemetery has been serving the Jewish residents of Westchester County, NY since 1899. One of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the area, it contains dozens of acres filled with historic memorials, statues, markers and headstones.
The famous people buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery include mathematician Guido Fubini, philanthropist and U.S. diplomat Henry Morgenthau, Sr. and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau, Jr., actress Lillian Roth and vaudeville stage performer Al Shean.
Located north of New York City and Mount Vernon, Mount Pleasant Cemetery may be reached via the Saw Mill River Parkway or Sprain Parkway. Head north from downtown NYC, turn off onto state Routes 98, 100, or 141, exit on to W. Stevens Ave., then turn off onto Commerce Street to enter the grounds of the cemetery.
