Feering, St Martins Cemetery
Coggeshall Road
Feering
Braintree District
Essex  England

Cemetery notes and/or description:
Feering is a village and parish in the Witham District of Essex, England. Situated on the river Blackwater between Colchester and Witham. 2 miles SE of Coggeshall. The Post town is Kelvedon. There are two burial sites, the St Martins Cemetery and All Saints Churchyard. The highly decorative cross within the cemetery was dedicated on St. Martin's day.
A tablet on the wall to the left of the entrance gate records the following:
In its one hundredth year -1994 Feering Parish Council donated the land that forms the south eastern extension to St. Martins Cemetery.
It is believed that the cemetery takes its name from the now demolished mortuary chapel, demolished between 1970 and 1974, in St Martins Churchyard. The chapel, dating from 1540 AD, was situated in a rectangular cemetery half a mile from the church and was a Chapel of Ease, (sometimes shown as 'chapel-of-ease') which is a church building other than the parish church, built within the bounds of a parish for the attendance of those who cannot reach the parish church conveniently.
