|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Purleigh is a village on the Dengie peninsula about four miles south of Maldon in Essex. The village is part of the Purleigh ward of the Maldon district. At the time of the Domesday survey, Purleigh Hall, was owned by Eustace, Earl of Bolougne. There are extensive vineyards in Purleigh. Lawrence Washington (1602-1655), the great-great-grandfather of George Washington, was rector in the village from 1632 until 1643. The parish church, of 14th century origin (when it was completely rebuilt), is All Saints. Materials of construction are largely Kentish ragstone and Suffolk flint. It has a traditional old churchyard and an extension churchyard directly opposite.
