|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
In the early years of the settlement of Jackson, the Catholic inhabitants had no separate cemetery but used the East Side burying ground in common with other citizens. It was near the close of the Civil War when the Catholics of St Johnís parish resolved to secure a cemetery for their separate use. After a careful examination of various sites, Rev Father Moutard, then pastor of St Johnís church selected the on on Francis street just south of the city limits and in the summer of 1866 purchased it of Thomas J Kent, paying $100 an acre for 7 Ĺ acres of land fronting on the east side of Francis street.
