West Virginia USA
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
According to the Summers County, West Virginia Historical Society Cemetery Book, 1996, this cemetery is named the HLB Bragg Cemetery. It was formerly called the George Bailey Cemetery. Many death records refer to this cemetery as the Hix Cemetery. Many recent obituaries lists this as the Bragg Cemetery.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE RECORD: This cemetery is not known as H. L. B. Cemetery and never has been known as the H. L. B. Cemetery except by the contributors of the Summers County Cemetery Book who happened to find the initials H. L. B. painted in large letters at the top steps at the entrance to the cemetery. H. L. B. is the initials of an individual who took loving care of the cemetery in which his mother, father, and other family members are buried. At one time the individual whose initials are H. L. B. just decided to paint his initials on the top step following a work day at the cemetery. Out of respect to the family I will decline to name this individual, H. L. B., who recently passed away. This story about the initials being painted on the top step was told to this contributor by H. L. B., himself.
All graves with legible headstones are listed as of July 2012.
Directions: At Hix on Chestnut Mountain. North on County Route 7. On right side of road about 200 feet from intersection with County Route 7/8.
